Another hair cut...

27th July 2007

Mummy brought Ryan for a hair cut again and this time, daddy's instructions were for me to ensure that ryan had a similar hair cut as his gor gor Ian...
In order that I get the cut right, daddy even MMSed me the pic of gor gor's new hairdo for the stylist to follow!

As I was lazy to lug the stroller along, I decided to get Jiu Jiu's maid to tag along and help me with ryan! Haha!

As usual, we went to Jean Yip and got Ken to cut ryan's hair. Showed him the mms and he said he would do his best because he was afraid of the fidgeting that ryan could be up to...

My little one was pretty well-behaved and we managed to get him out of the saloon in say less than 15 minutes?

Mama and gong gong didn't like the new do because it looked rather uneven at the back and his fringe was too short! Ken had chopped off a wee bit too much of the fringe and it resulted in Ryan looking very nerdy! Hahaha!

Anyway, daddy didn't like it either as he said the sides weren't as short as he had wanted so what did we do?

We actually headed back to the saloon once again after dinner!
Ken was no longer around and we simply got another young stylist to do the job. This time round, it was MUCH better!

Mummy doesn't really like the new do because ryan no longer looks cute...his pumpkin hairstyle was no longer there and the cute element was obviously stripped off as well =( Hai! All because his daddy wanted him to have the same do as gor gor!

Seriously, what's wrong with looking cute at this age?

Diaper pls?

26th July 2007

It's a Thursday and Yi Yi's coming over in the evening with the children.

Reason for this rare visit?
Yi Yi wants to try out the 1 day old Panasonic massage chair that had arrived just the day before...hehe!

Anyway, Yi Yi was already waiting for us at mama's house in the evening and daddy and I were pretty late because I had to fulfil my commitment as a band teacher...just the mention of the word 'commitment' makes my blood boil! Oh whatever! Will not be blogging about my frustrations here in case someone from school happens to read about it...

Mama went:"Ryan, let's go change diaper before you go home!"

Amazingly, my precious little one stood up, headed to the room and tried to pick out his diaper! Sadly, he did not manage to pick out the right one because he took the 's' size diaper which was meant for his di di Ethan! Haha! A hilarious sight no doubt!
However, it also means one thing, Ryan has accomplished yet another feat which is to understand what a diaper is and he even managed to say the word itself! So proud of my little rascal! He's really growing up fast!

According to mama, the little one's taken to running instead of walking whenever she brings him outside or downstairs! Haha! Mama's obviously complaining since he's getting so hyper these days!

Oh, when he runs, it's really an adorable sight because he only seems to swing his left arm as he tries to run! Strange but true! He still seems a tad unsteady but he's oblivious to it and continues running as we chase in fear! My clumsy little bum!

Spending time with him...

21st July 2007

It's a Saturday and daddy's parents came over to look after and play with Ryan today! Whew! Mummy finally gets some time to do some housework and marking! Hehehe...
We went for breakfast at Holland V and then headed to Jelita Cold Storage for some grocery shopping. We figured ryan was tall enough to push his own trolley so we decided to let him push the kids' trolley which he gave up halfway. The trolley was only able to sustain his interest for the first few minutes of his shopping! After that, he just pushed the trolley away and decided that it was a hindrance! Haha!

Look at me pushing my own shopping trolley! I got mummy to buy bananas for me! See the bunch in my trolley?

In the afternoon, ryan had a fall AGAIN! Apparently he slipped on the flash cards which were lying all over the floor! My poor son hit his head with a loud thud on the ground and had everyone running to him! Silly daddy and gong gong were busy watching a DVD movie whilst mama had gone to the kitchen for a while to clear the container or something...mummy was of course, busy marking in the room when ryan began wailing in pain!

Haiz! Just when he was recovering from his viral fever, he had to have a fall! Thank goodness, he was fine after a couple of minutes of crying.

Good riddance to the dreaded fever!

20th July 2007

Our little one has recovered! Yahoo! The dreaded fever has left him and he's now back to his usual noisy self! Haha! Walking all over the place, making lots of noise and climbing all over the place as well!

Ah-ma's having a difficult time now as ryan seems completely attached to her! He doesn't even want to allow his beloved grandma to leave him a few mins for her own bath! Poor ah-ma seemed a little annoyed but what could she do right? Hehehe...

Mummy's still on CCL as daddy wants her to monitor baby ryan's temp...no chances to be taken where fever is concerned! So one more day of staying at home with the rascal who can be pretty annoying at times though!
Mummy's poor classes were deprived of her presence once more...haiz! I bet they miss their most beautiful teacher of all time...ahahaha!

Mummy went to visit her 'mam' in hospital as she had just given birth to Melivia at 3.02kg and then headed for her session with the doctor and relevant personnel regarding one of her students...

Gong gong commented that because of his grandson, he had been forced to stay home for the past few nights...hahaha! (Usually, gong gong has plans at night to either go karaoke, line dancing or just sit at a club to listen to a band play!)
Now that's what I call a grandpa's love for his most pampered grandson when he sacrifices all those activities for the little rascal...

Thank you gong gong for being such a doting grandpa to our little precious one!

MC at home!

19th July 2007

Ryan was on mc today and mummy and daddy were pretty flustered in the morning as his temp was stil quite high...middle of the night was tiring as we had to sponge the little one for about an hour to bring down his 39plus temp...

Fever hadn't subsided in the morning and we were contemplating whether to bring ryan to Thomson Medical or not.

Daddy smsed our pd and asked for advice. She told us to continue sponging and to bring him in later in the afternoon when she was working. So we made an appointment at 3pm at Olive Tree.

There, the pd gave him medication for his throat and diarrhoea and we even had his stool taken for tests (to check if it was rotavirus or if it was bacteria in it) As at 19th July 2007, Ryan was 10.5kg and 82cm tall...

Headed back home after buying baby ryan a luminous yellow ball from TOYS'R'US...

Still cranky but ryan was on the road to recovery in the later part of the evening...thank goodness!!!!

A traumatic experience...

18th July 2007

Baby ryan had a slight fever when we sent him to mama's this morning...daddy had to go for his reservist briefing that's why we had to send the little one to mama's early!
We asked mama to monitor his temperature and to sms me immediately when his temp rose.

Mama msged me at 10plus to inform me that ryan's temp was now at 38.7...

Immediately, mummy took time off from school to head back to mama's to look after ryan.

Temp was between 38 to 40.4 in the afternoon.

Uncle Rodney came by to check on ryan and concluded that ryan was suffering from a throat infection and told us to drop by the clinic to pick up the medication on our way home.

We decided to ask uncle rodney to insert the suppository at the clinic as ryan's temp was still pretty high...a hesitant ah-tiu did it upon much persistence as he feared that ryan would not want to be friends with him after this episode again...hehe!

Suppository was inserted and we headed home.

Along the way, mummy noticed that ryan was looking in the direction of the window nearest to him...upon closer look, mummy noticed that ryan wasn't blinking! He was practically just staring at the window without blinking!
Mummy immediately freaked out and kept calling out to Ryan!

'Ryan! Ryan! Look at mummy! Ryan, what's wrong with you!!'

Mummy was already hysterical by then as ryan wasn't responding at all!!!
Next thing mummy did was to quickly remove him from the car seat and shake him as she continued to talk to him! Still no reaction! Daddy had already stopped the car along the expressway, on a divider and turned his attention to us behind!
Mummy of course had started crying and was practically shouting at ryan to respond!

'Ryan! Ryan! U ok?! Don't scare mummy, Ryan! Please?!!'

Daddy was smart enough to ask mummy to sprinkle some water on the little one and as soon as mummy did that, ryan had a bit of reaction and began to blink...
Mummy continued talking to him and fumbled around for her handphone to call ah-ma to talk to him...
As soon as ah-ma picked up and was told of what was happening, she started to become hysterical as well and mummy could hear her screaming in the phone as she placed the hp against ryan's ears for him to hear his ah-ma!

It took ryan at least a couple of minutes to finally react! It must have been the most traumatic and heart-wrenching minutes of mummy's entire life!

Daddy sped like a mad man back to uncle rodney's clinic after calling him to inform him of ryan's condition in the car...

Ah-ma and gong gong too made their way to the clinic as they were very frightened by the episode!

Once there, we started sponging ryan in order to reduce his high temp...I believe we stayed there for at least 45 mins to ensure that his temp was within manageable limits before we made our way back to ah-ma's to stay the night...

Honestly speaking, mummy had never been this worried and flustered before...her very first thought though morbid, was that her precious little one was going to die!! I know it sounds far-fetched but at that moment, I wasn't even thinking that it could be a fit that ryan was having...it was very certainly a scary moment whereby memories of the past 16months simply flashed by!

My poor little rascal with the kodomo fever cooling pad:

Things I have learnt from this episode:

.Never to take life for granted

..Be much more patient with baby ryan

...Spend as much time with my precious darling as possible (sleep is not as important as my flesh and blood)

....Not to take fever lightly (always sponge the little one when he's warm)

.....And lastly, be very happy and thankful when he is up and about, talking and making as much noise as possible!

Praise the lord that my sweetheart is okay and that nothing untoward has happened!
Love you dear God!!!

Hot Hot!!!

11th July 2007

Mummy was on mc today and went to see the doctor about her wrist. Apparently it was a common condition for mothers who carry their babies too much!

Ryan, see what carrying you has done to mummy's wrist? Think it was because mummy pampered the little rascal too much when he was younger and kept carrying and rocking him to sleep. I wonder why daddy doesn't have such a condition? Hhhhmmmm???

Anyway, mummy decided that it was a good day to try to wean Ryan off his most indispensible pacifier aka "choo-choot"

Here's what mummy did:

Soak ONE chilli padi in water

Wait for a while before dumping the pacifier in the water

Pick it out within a couple of minutes

Let ryan have it when he asked for it

You could see ryan's face change when he stuffed the 'spicy hot' pacifier into his mouth! My poor little rascal! Asked if he wanted to throw it away because it was hot and he willingly let me have it! Haha! A first since this is his most indispensible choo-choot we're talking about!

Mummy thought the chilli would henceforth put ryan off his pacifier...alas it was not meant to be! My brave little one still insisted on having his choo-choot despite numerous times of soaking it in the 'spicy' water!

Yup...now you understand why mummy says it is the INDISPENSIBLE choo-choot!

Another fall...

Ryan has done it again! Remember mummy mentioned that ryan tends to be maboh when he lacks his precious zzzzz??? Yup! Ryan fell again and landed on his head when he became a little sleepy and drowsy at around 8 plus 9pm...

Where were we when this happened?

Godpa Derek's new abode at Bukit Panjang...it's a really cosy place with a condo layout which daddy fell in love with and even suggested moving into!
Mummy instant reaction? Daddy probably wasn't in the right frame of mind! Hahaha! Why would mummy want to move from a HDB flat into another? The point is to upgrade remember? Haiz! Daddy's losing it! Whatever was he thinking about when those words came out of his mouth?

Anyway, ryan happened to be standing behind the footstool when he tripped (probably over one of the legs) and landed on his head! OUCH! The silence and intense concentration of daddy's friends on the tennis match that was going on was instantly disrupted by the piercing screams of our poor little rascal...

Lesson learnt: someone MUST follow ryan around whenever the little one is lacking in sleep...haiz!

ryan's teeth update! (as of 05 july 2007)

ryan's 2 other teeth has emerged!! which prob explains his intolerable whining and grouchiness! of course he has started biting people when they least expect it! first victim: mommy! ryan went over and bit her on her hand (near the knuckles) and left a deep mark! hehehehe... daddy has yet to experience it! *fingers crossed*

Crash!

Ryan has done it! He actually broke a dolphin ornament this evening at mama's house!!! Thank God he wasn't hurt!

How did ryan manage to carry out such an amazing stunt?

Apparently, he managed to somehow get the glass door of the showcase opened and then I guess all that swiping his hands around and grabbing whatever was in sight probably caused the ornament to fall out and CRASH onto the ground! Gong gong ran out of his room and so did mummy! Mama could be heard shouting before the incident occurred but... I guess everyone was too slow to react!

1 point to be confirmed YET AGAIN...

Gong gong REALLY dotes on the little rascal! He didn't even scold or blame the little fella for the breakage of his dolphin ornament which has been around for some time now...

Hhhmmm... mama and I were thinking that if it had been his cousins who had broken the ornament, they would definitely have had to endure a earful from gong gong but for ryan...the matter simply blew over! Almost INSTANTLY I must add...

Oh, ryan had a fall this afternoon as well...according to mama, it happened when gong gong asked ryan to throw something into the bin for him.
The result of the fall: a red, slightly swollen lower lip

Well, I guess injuries are part and parcel of growing up...don't you think so?

A piece of gd news to share: we discovered ryan's 6th tooth sprouting! Itz the top lateral incisor tooth on his left...such a joy to see less of his gums and more white coming up! Hehehe...

Cranky and *maboh*

Yup...the title says it all...

when ryan doesn't get enough sleep in the day...that's how he behaves!
We confirmed it this evening when ryan fell, YET AGAIN, precisely because he wasn't getting enough zzzz....
This time round, the culprit wasn't mummy! Whew! It happened to be ryan's 'best' friend, gong gong....hahaha! You could see the worried look on gong gong's face....he kept rubbing ryan's head!

okay...ryan's list of 'can dos':

- say 'apple', 'banana', 'mum mum'(food), 'neh neh'(milk), 'ah ma', 'please' with his lips pressed against each other and saliva spurting, 'thanks', 'pa pa', 'ma ma', 'teh teh' (gong gong / pacifier), 'ball', 'more'(with his hands outstretched), 'no more', 'done', 'kay'(okay)

- go 'moo' when he sees a picture of a cow and 'wou wou' when he sees a dog

- absolutely LOVES brushing his teeth with his apple/banana flavoured toothpaste!

- how can we forget his all time favourite character, MICKEY? Never fails to bring on that cheeky smile with only 4 teeth (plus one sprouting) at this point in time!

- knows how to salute when asked to with the phrase 'Yes Sir!'

- been placed in naughty corners already and of course, his wails never fail to accompany his stranded and 'poor little thing' expression

- apologises after being placed in the naughty corner (he will use either hand to to tap the side of his head and that's "sorry!")

- when asked "which part of your head hurts?" following a fall/knock, he will always touch the front of his forehead and the "pls sayang me" look

- kiss! he will open his mouth widely and as he kisses your cheek, he will immediately "blow" and often a "farting" sound will emerge!

- hi-5 and shaking hands with anyone who asks him to

- clap his hands together when asked to smack a mosquito

- play peek-a-boo at the edge of mummy and daddy's bed

- blow kiss with his hand repeatedly doing the "red indian's warcry!" as he go "wah wah wah"

- a very natural reaction when he hears music...DANCE! Ryan loves bobbing up and down to the music even in his car seat! He also loves swaying his head forwards and backwards to the music

- ryan is capable of throwing away his used diapers and any other unwanted items into the bin but sometimes he throws the wrong things into the bin! E.g he once threw daddy's clean socks into the bin but managed to pick it up and return to daddy when asked to. Sometimes, he tends to pick up nonsense from the bin as well! Haiz!

- whenever daddy puts his head near ryan's, ryan will always lean forward and use his head to "knock" daddy's and he will do it repeatedly! hehehehe

- he likes to "boo!" his pacifier out of his mouth and occasionally he will invert his pacifier and show it to us with his cheeky smile! OMG!

- scratch daddy!! he scratches like a cat! the scar on daddy's face proves it all! together with the numerous scratch marks on the legs, back, arms!

- obediently sits down for us to put on his shoes whenever we tell him to

- whenever we ask him if he likes something, he will "wave" his hand front and back lightly

- he likes to lift up daddy's, gong gong's and mummy's tshirt and "blow" on their stomachs!

- he's able to climb down gong gong's bed (which is pretty high) and of course daddy and mummy's bed, crawling to the edge of the bed and then turning himself around such that his legs will "reach" the floor first.

- pick a ball and throw it whenever we tell him to or simply on his own accord

- his "hercules" moves, lifting his own bathtub, pushing the dining chairs, etc

- open & close the bathroom bi-fold door repeatedly, with the occasional tilting of his head sideways, as if peeking out from the side

- loves to read books!!! he will always walk towards his "library" section of the house where his stacks of books are kept, pick one up, plop himself down and start flipping the pages and upon completion, he will clap his hands, as if a sign of achievement! hehehe

- loves to play with the "speakerphone" button and keeps pressing it repeatedly. picks the the handset and bring it to his ear momentarily before slamming it down again.

- loves to throw himself backwards each time he sits/bounce on our bed each night as we coax him to sleep. and of course standing ip on the bed, walk a few steps with his hands in the air, before he plops down.
