A traumatic experience...

18th July 2007

Baby ryan had a slight fever when we sent him to mama's this morning...daddy had to go for his reservist briefing that's why we had to send the little one to mama's early!
We asked mama to monitor his temperature and to sms me immediately when his temp rose.

Mama msged me at 10plus to inform me that ryan's temp was now at 38.7...

Immediately, mummy took time off from school to head back to mama's to look after ryan.

Temp was between 38 to 40.4 in the afternoon.

Uncle Rodney came by to check on ryan and concluded that ryan was suffering from a throat infection and told us to drop by the clinic to pick up the medication on our way home.

We decided to ask uncle rodney to insert the suppository at the clinic as ryan's temp was still pretty high...a hesitant ah-tiu did it upon much persistence as he feared that ryan would not want to be friends with him after this episode again...hehe!

Suppository was inserted and we headed home.

Along the way, mummy noticed that ryan was looking in the direction of the window nearest to him...upon closer look, mummy noticed that ryan wasn't blinking! He was practically just staring at the window without blinking!
Mummy immediately freaked out and kept calling out to Ryan!

'Ryan! Ryan! Look at mummy! Ryan, what's wrong with you!!'

Mummy was already hysterical by then as ryan wasn't responding at all!!!
Next thing mummy did was to quickly remove him from the car seat and shake him as she continued to talk to him! Still no reaction! Daddy had already stopped the car along the expressway, on a divider and turned his attention to us behind!
Mummy of course had started crying and was practically shouting at ryan to respond!

'Ryan! Ryan! U ok?! Don't scare mummy, Ryan! Please?!!'

Daddy was smart enough to ask mummy to sprinkle some water on the little one and as soon as mummy did that, ryan had a bit of reaction and began to blink...
Mummy continued talking to him and fumbled around for her handphone to call ah-ma to talk to him...
As soon as ah-ma picked up and was told of what was happening, she started to become hysterical as well and mummy could hear her screaming in the phone as she placed the hp against ryan's ears for him to hear his ah-ma!

It took ryan at least a couple of minutes to finally react! It must have been the most traumatic and heart-wrenching minutes of mummy's entire life!

Daddy sped like a mad man back to uncle rodney's clinic after calling him to inform him of ryan's condition in the car...

Ah-ma and gong gong too made their way to the clinic as they were very frightened by the episode!

Once there, we started sponging ryan in order to reduce his high temp...I believe we stayed there for at least 45 mins to ensure that his temp was within manageable limits before we made our way back to ah-ma's to stay the night...

Honestly speaking, mummy had never been this worried and flustered before...her very first thought though morbid, was that her precious little one was going to die!! I know it sounds far-fetched but at that moment, I wasn't even thinking that it could be a fit that ryan was having...it was very certainly a scary moment whereby memories of the past 16months simply flashed by!

My poor little rascal with the kodomo fever cooling pad:

Things I have learnt from this episode:

.Never to take life for granted

..Be much more patient with baby ryan

...Spend as much time with my precious darling as possible (sleep is not as important as my flesh and blood)

....Not to take fever lightly (always sponge the little one when he's warm)

.....And lastly, be very happy and thankful when he is up and about, talking and making as much noise as possible!

Praise the lord that my sweetheart is okay and that nothing untoward has happened!
Love you dear God!!!
